Role:

This role will provide oversight over all activities related to network operations and maintenance. This includes overseeing the team that will work hand in hand with the Network Operations Center by providing higher-level troubleshooting assistance, fault correction oversight, advanced configuration, network change management, network audits and implementation of all new features and technical solutions on the network. The Network Operations and Maintenance Manager will need to anticipate and meet operational requirements while ensuring the smooth running of fibre infrastructure supporting the needs of the operation. 

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identifying, recruiting, managing and retaining a team of qualified engineers required for end to end operations and maintenance. 
  • Enforcing Service Level Agreements from vendors and towards customers.
  • Escalation management by acting as an escalation point for the customer during fault occurrence
  • Reporting to senior leadership on network performance through preparation and presentation of monthly/quarterly reports 
  • Preparing and presenting network performance reports on an as-need basis to customers 
  • Overseeing timely closure of any issues raised and/or escalated by customer/ vendors
  • Performing Monthly Incident Reconciliation with customers and vendors
  • Budgeting and Costing for network operations and maintenance through the review of bills of quantities submitted by vendors

 

Minimum Qualifications / Experience:

  • BA/BS degree in Engineering, Computer Science or Information Technology (IT) or equivalent training. (in lieu of degree, 8 years relevant work experience) 
  • 5+ years work experience in a managerial  position in a telecommunications operations environment including monitoring of routers, switches, DWDM, and IP/MPLS equipment, in POPs, carrier customers, and data centre environments
  • Experience in SLA formulation and management
  • Fundamental understanding of fibre fault handling procedures, optical technologies and related technologies 
  • Good understanding of several technologies, including but not limited to Fiber Optics, DWDM, GPON, SONET/SDH, Ethernet, routers, and IP/MPLS.
  • Hands on knowledge of Nokia IP/MPLS  will be an added advantage
  • Practical understanding of common TCP/IP protocols and general networking (TCP/UDP/ICMP, DNS, HTTP/HTTPS, subnetting, routing, etc.).
